On the offroad side of of the racing world, Shoei’s dominance of the GNCC series continued as Geico Kawasaki’s Paul Whibley took the win at the John Penton GNCC in Millfield, Ohio.  With Shoei riders Strang, Mullins, and Hawk taking spots 3rd through 5th, it’s easy to see that the top off road riders trust Shoei to keep them safe and comfortable.  Learn more about Paul at

Paul Whibley Begins His OMA Title Defense

Shoei rider Paul Whibley is carrying the OMA number 1 plate on his bike this year and started his season as a true champion after overcoming several obstacles on his way to victory at round 1 of the series.

After holeshotting the race, Paul crashed down a cliff on the first lap and ruined his goggles working his way back up through the pack.  He had to stop for an unscheduled pit stop to replace the goggles before continuing.  Hard charging and a great pit stop allowed him to catch a fleeing Jimmy Jarrett.  Then disaster struck again as Whibley’s chain derailed!  After pulling over to fix the chain, Whibley went at it once again and caught and passed Jarrett on his way to winning the race by 30 seconds!

Shoei’s VFX-W Sweeps the GNCC Podium!

Suzuki’s Josh Strang led a Shoei sweep of the podium at the Pirelli Big Buck GNCC.  Strang finished just seconds ahead of Kawasaki’s Paul Whibley.  Third place went to early race leader Charlie Mullins.  Fellow Shoei rider Thad Duval came home in fifth.  Only 4th place Nate Kanney broke up the Shoei party at the front!  Whibley currently leads the series, followed by Mullins.  Looks like if you want to win in the woods, there’s only one helmet to wear!  The VFX-W was designed to work well for off road riders.  External plastic vent covers have been removed entirely to prevent breakage, and Shoei specs all of it’s offroad helmets with plastic visor screws to make it easier for the visor to break away in the event of a crash or collision with a tree branch.  This can help prevent your neck from being jerked back violently.  Just ask all of the top off road riders in the country which helmet they choose!

Paul Thacker Sets a New World Record!

Monster Energy’s Paul Thacker achieved his dream yesterday – jumping a snowmobile more than 300 feet through the air and landing safely back to earth at Minnesota’s Brainerd International Raceway and, in the process, setting a milestone on March 26th, 2009, that will be forever remembered in both action sports and the sport of snowmobiling.

Said Thacker: “I got up to 87 miles per hour and hit the take-off ramp. When I was in the air I just knew it was perfect. Flew over 301 feet. With the amplitude and the way I landed I knew we got to where we wanted to be. I was already screaming in my Shoei helmet on the down run!”
